The FRCs provide services and, importantly, help families access the range of existing services available to them. FRCs aim to be highly visible entry points or gateways to a whole service system promoting healthy family relationships, preventing conflict and separation, encouraging agreement rather than litigation, and promoting the right of children to have meaningful relationships with both parents.

The FRCs specifically target intact and separated families; as well as couples contemplating marriage to create a blended family.

Family dispute resolution is essentially a structured discussion offered to couples and/or significant others affected by separation and divorce to assist in decision making about parenting matters or parenting and property matters. FDR can help separating or separated couples to reach an agreement with the assistance of a neutral 3rd party (FDRP) without having to go to court.  All discussions that take place during family dispute resolution are confidential.  

  • The needs of the children will always be the primary focus of joint family dispute resolution sessions at the Family Relationship Centre.  The Family Relationship Centre will not provide dispute resolution services in matters that involve property issues only.
  • The Family Relationship Centre offers further assistance by providing information about family relationships at all stages – forming new relationships, overcoming relationship difficulties and dealing with separation. Centre staff can also refer to other services that can help.
